Serious athleticism
My friend Andrew Durniat shared this youtube video with me of his performance at the Atomic Athletic Olde Time Strongman Picnic in Bowling Green, OH.
I’ve been in the field of movement and power development for most of my life and have come across a lot of talented people. I can count on one hand with fingers to spare those I’ve met that I would say have superior athletic development than myself. By that I mean the total package of strength, fitness and movement quality. Andrew is definitely one of those rare breeds. The fact that he is so young shows that he has still much more progress ahead of him.
Check out what he does for fun in his spare time:
Andrew is one of the new breed of American kettlebell lifter who is embracing the finer points of lifting and testing it out in competition. He recently became the first American man to do a complete 10:00 set in competition Snatch with 32kg
When an advanced athlete such as Andrew comes across something like kettlebells, he quickly will master all the feats of strength, as he shows on this clip. He’s just playing around. He knows that the real challenge for him lies on the repetition snatch and C&J platform, where the real kettlebell experts can be found
With that talent that he has, he would become bored very quickly with sets of 10 and there would be no challenge in all the basic feats of strength–Turkish Get Up, Bent Press, etc.
You can see that even though his ability with kettlebells is in the top 1% in this country, he refers to the lifters who can do 140+ reps. Even the top people need something to shoot for and examples to follow.
